Professional Consultation:
A consultation consists of a one and one-half hour observation of your
garden during which suggestions for improvements or changes will be
made to help you create the garden of your dreams. I will be
considering your preferences as well as the size and shape of your
garden, any existing borders, prominent views, backgrounds, neighboring
|
property features, and such issues as
soil
condition.
We will discuss the desired structure for your garden, number and types
of garden rooms within the garden, seasonal interest, color, fragrance,
and hardscape features like pathways, decks, patios, benches, sitting
areas, water features, arbors, trellises, or other items. To help
you execute the suggested changes, stakes can be used to outline areas
and mark specific spots for future plants.
|
Professional Design:
I
will provide you with a personalized design, including changing
seasonal interest, color and fragrance throughout the year while using
interesting plants. I will help you create a peaceful private retreat
or stunning entrance garden. If you have a large property, you
have the opportunity of dividing it into several garden rooms.
Although, even the smallest of gardens can include more than one
distinct room, making it seem larger and more interesting.

Clients
who love gardening and want to participate are encouraged to join in
the various steps according to their desired level of involvement.
Design work includes consulting with the client, drawing the
plan, selecting appropriate plants, purchasing and delivering the
plants, reviewing the design

plan and updating it with the
client. The total concept of the design and the
many details involved are all important in achieving a garden of
lasting and maturing beauty. Many of my clients prefer that this
work be done on site without the creation of expensive drawings.
Others want to have drawings done as part of the process. I am
currently using design software that allows me to draw overhead views
(plot plans), insert photos of client properties into a graphic view
and insert the desired plants for a preview of how the finished design
will look, and print these in full color, as well as black and white or
grayscale.

Teaching:
My
passion for gardening translates into great excitement when helping my
clients learn to nurture their new gardens. The skill they gain makes
their gardening experience positive and fulfilling. Many clients find
that, with some coaching and the sharing of knowledge, their time in
the garden becomes exhilirating and rewarding.
|
| Plants:
Because of my great passion for stunning plants
and creating delightful gardens, I have aquired an extensive plant
palette.
I obtained my Nursery License in July of 2004 and am caring for some
favored plants on my own property. My life partner and I opened a
retail nursery in May of 2005, located in Multnomah Village. It was
located at Jacqueline's Found & Fabulous, a retail Home and Garden
Decor store where I designed and the owner installed a full landscape
garden in both the front and the back. It is a beautiful garden with
many pathways and gorgeous plants. The retail nursery, a grand
success, was closed in October of 2005 and plans for expansion have
been put on hold until an appropriate property can be found and the
dream of a destination nursery can be fully developed.

We
are very fortunate in the Pacific Northwest to have a booming and
progressive nursery industry with ever increasing choices of plant
material.
The avaibility of a great variety of unique and outstanding high
performance plants gives us great latitude of design.
Copper Structures:
I am pleased to provide copper structures
to enhance your garden with old world patina and artistic flair.
Based on your selection of style and size, these copper
structures will be built to fit perfectly in your garden. They
are custom built by Acorn

Publications:
I am so glad to have friends and colleagues who assist me in the
production of my publications.
Aprile Penhall designed and produced
my brochure.
Dave Jensen, of Acorn
Solutions, has helped me with the design and
implementation of this web site and my brand new publication
"Margaret's Garden Tips." It is also a great thrill that both of my
daughters, Natasha and Anne-Lise, help me proofread all that I write!

commencement issue. Unfortunately, my garden design business has
grown so much that I no longer have time to write a monthly
newsletter. I have decided to put this project on hold.
